Morton ArboretumMorton Arboretum Average User Rating: (0 votes, add your vote or comments) The Morton Arboretum was founded by the owner of the Morton Salt Company, Joy Morton, in 1922. The mission of the arboretum is to " to collect and study trees, shrubs, and other plants from around the world, to display them across naturally beautiful landscapes, and to learn how to grow them in ways that enhance our environment. Our goal is to encourage the planting and conservation of trees and other plants for a greener, healthier, and more beautiful world." Today, Visitor stations at several key locations around the Arboretum offer interpretation panels, special plantings, and a spot from where visitors can access trails to gardens and natural areas. In 1997, new projects included a children's gardent and a maze garden, open in 2005. The Sterling Morton Library is on site and houses a significant collection of rare books and prints. Directions to the Morton Arboretum: Westbound I-88: exit north onto Route 53. Do you know of a Place that should be included here? Please Suggest a place in the appropriate category. |
